DERMATITIS RESOURCES

Dermatitis is a generalized term to describe inflammation of the skin. Most often, they are characterized by itchiness, redness, rash, and in some cases blistering. Long term effects include thickening of the skin, also known as lichenification. Dermatitis location largely varies depending on the type of dermatitis as well as the environmental exposure.

Four of the main conditions in the dermatitis category include atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, and stasis dermatitis. Each condition has a different causes. For instance, atopic dermatitis is largely a genetic disease that is also affected by environmental factors. Allergic contact dermatitis is a type IV hypersensitivity reaction that occurs as a result of sensitization with subsequent development of an allergy.
